Why should we help?
An arrangement with a ‘live-in maid’* can collapse shortly after she is hired, mostly because of misunderstandings; cultural differences, methods, and expectations put distance between helper and employer, sometimes leading to opposite points of view.
Who can we help?
You have just relocated to Singapore and have heard how valuable a live-in-maid can be, but you have no experience in managing a full-time domestic helper.
You need to master the complexity of the relationship with a foreign domestic worker.
You also need a full understanding of all legal aspects of your rights and responsibilities towards your employee.
You would feel more comfortable being assisted in training of your newly hired employee.
How we help
A half day session with two face-to-face meetings, in the privacy of your home, one with you and one with your domestic helper. These are the topics addressed:
-
- Legal, economic, and cultural aspects of the employer-employee relationship
- Specific examples of typical behaviour of a foreign domestic worker
- Setting up an employment plan and methods of work with daily schedule
- Editing of employment contract (signing an employment agreement is not compulsory but highly recommended)
- Training the employee
- Upon request, a newly hired Domestic Helper can also be assisted by a junior associate
- Exhaustive documentation is included (H.E.L.P. Handbook for Employer, H.E.L.P. Handbook for Domestic Helper or Maid).
* A live-in-maid is a full time domestic helper, residing at her employer's house. She is also called "Foreign Domestic Helper" by administrative authority such as the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore. "Maid" is pejorative ; "Helper" or "Domestic Helper" should be prefered.
